My First Experience at Dev. Summit : GIDS.WEB

When I reached for the developer summit today morning at the IISC campus I saw people had to queue outside. I told myself well not bad so many people want to get armed with the knowledge of the latest trends in the web space but why should we be in queue we are delegates already registered for the summit. The gate opened a little late after but thank god we knew which queue to follow in counters. So here I was with the bags distributed by the people at the counters. Now this is where it could have been more organised I did not know how to find the hall where I want to attend the session because this was supposed to be the main hall and nowhere was it mentioned doesn't matter I found it yuppy! it was right in front. So the first session was about to attend was on "Re-architecting the Web with HTML 5 Communication" with Jonas Jacobi as the speaker. There were so many subjects that were being spoken but I wanted to know about HTML-5 so went ahead inside. It was great I got to know a little bit about what are the latest things that are being proposed for html-5 and which browsers support the specs that are already out. Firefox seems miles ahead in the competition, it has a lot of things in the final stage. I decided to attend the next session by Jonas Jacobi because it seemed I am getting to know something about the future of HTML. Jonas spoke about "21st Century RIAs: Using HTML 5 Communication" and told us how using web sockets is going to revolutionalize the web with instant updates through the web through bi-directional communication through the browsers but hey what is "Kaazing" doing here but that's fine I got to know about web sockets. Seems like they will catch with gaming sites, stock tickers etc.
Luch time mates little disoranized but lets not mind it people have just filled up so has to be a queue of some sort. Now this was the chance to catch with some of stalls in the summit. Adobe had a great demo about Flex at one of them then you had IBM giving free CDs of their latest suits and yeah there is Sony Ericcson distributing mobiles if you can give a good mobile idea.
Anyways now again it was time to choose another topic to attend from the variety of topics. I picked "SEAM, Web Beans & JBoss" well I wanted to know what is seaming in jboss :). Well seems like jboss is up for something nice in the times to come. Well I thought we were missing the technicality in the presentation so found it a little boring.
KeyNote time folks and so many gifts for the people two mobiles given enjoyed it.
This time I picked up the "Developing RIAs for the Enterprise using Adobe Flash Platform" and really Adobe has made something amazing I would go home and search more about what they are making. Lovely push technology implementation kudos.
Time to end the GIDS.WEB folks to summarize I thought the industry is heading for lots of RIA related apps folks and well people want to automate so much means developers like will be out of job? I don't think so I think the efforts are leading to a lot of confusion and too much under the wraps which in turn needs people like us ;). I feel I am armed with some more knowledge today and got to know about where we are heading. Great effort Saltmarch GIDS was worth its salt.
